Rape

Rape is often described as unwanted, forced or non-consensual ‘sex’. But sex and rape are two very different things. If there is no consent then it’s not sex, it’s rape – no matter the circumstances.

Sexual Assault

Sexual assault happens when someone either touches another person in a sexual manner without consent or makes another person touch them in a sexual manner without consent. It includes unwanted kissing and the touching of someone’s genitals, breasts or bottom.

Spiking

So-called ‘spiking’ is when someone puts alcohol or drugs into another person’s drink or body without their knowledge or consent – in many cases, to make it easier to rape or sexually assault them. Some people use so-called ‘date rape drugs’ to do this.

Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is any unwanted sexual behaviour that makes someone feel upset, scared, offended or humiliated, or is meant to make them feel that way.

Child Sexual Abuse

Child sexual abuse is sexual activity that happens to a person under the age of 18 and is unwanted or involves pressure, manipulation, bullying, intimidation, threats, deception or force.

Indecent Exposure

Indecent exposure or ‘flashing’ is when someone shows their genitals in order to scare or upset another person. ‘Cyber flashing’ is when indecent exposure happens online or over text message.

Female Genital Mutilation

The term ‘female genital mutilation’ – also known as ‘FGM’ – refers to procedures that intentionally alter or cause injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.
