Tosin Adebayo, Ph.D.

Lead Researcher

Biography

Dr. Tosin Adebayo earned her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2020. She also received her M.A. in Communication from Western Illinois University and a B.A. in English from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

As an intercultural and interracial communication scholar, she critically studies Black women’s maternal healthcare experiences. Her research examines how cultural discourses and differences impact the healthcare experiences of Black women. Presently, she is investigating what types of discourses are evoked in African American women’s interactions with healthcare providers during prenatal and postnatal visits. Her long-term research agenda seeks to explore the role of racial and cultural identity and realities in medical interactions, particularly for Black women and immigrant populations. Her work has been published in the Journal of Family Communication, Journal of Intercultural Communication Research, Journal of Transcultural Nursing, Health Communication, Communication Teacher, Journal of International Students, and Journal of the Association for Communication Administration. For leisure, she likes to sing classical hymns and bake with her girls.

Biography

Dr. Oyewole .O. Olusanya (FAIPH, PhD),  is a Medical Sociologist and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of the Social Sciences, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria.  

Dr. Olusanya serves as the local co-investigator for the Sexual Violence Project Nigeria. He is responsible for gaining research site access with gatekeepers, coordinating recruitment activities, as well as managing research assistants’ activities with data collection. 

Dr. Olusanya is a resource person in training workshops, conferences, and seminars with over twenty years of field experience in social work among young people and couples. Areas of research interest are Adolescence and Youth, Marriage and Family, and Sexual and Reproductive Health.

Additionally, Dr. Olusanya is the Coordinator, Family Tent Ministry (FTM), a Christian ministry involved in enriching the lives of singles and married by promoting Christian values and ethics. Since its inception in April 1999, FTM has been a source of great help to the lives of many young people both locally and internationally.

Olayinka O. Adetunji

Biography

Oluyemisi O. Adetunji is a public health consultant with 14 years working experience with the Ondo State agency for the control of HIV and aids and the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency. She is passionate about health for all specifically in maternal and child health especially the girl child.

On the Sexual Violence Project Nigeria, Olayinka worked as a research assistant in Nigeria. She assisted with participant recruitment and data collection.

Olayinka is a researcher and a powerful force in the workplace that uses her positive attitude and tireless energy to encourage others to work and succeed. She is a graduate of Sociology from university of Abuja, Nigeria and also holds a master’s degree in medical Sociology from Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba. She’s currently completing her doctoral degree from the Federal university Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria.

Biography

Damilola Aloba is a dedicated and accomplished professional currently holding the position of Program Officer at the Health Solutions and Gender Violence Centre, a distinguished non-governmental organization situated in Nigeria. 

On the Sexual Violence Project Nigeria, Damilola worked as a research assistant in Nigeria. She assisted with participant recruitment and data collection.

Dami holds a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) which equipped her with a robust understanding of health systems and a multidisciplinary approach to addressing public health challenges.

Biography

Cameron is a second-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology master’s Program at Towson University. Her research interests are centered around Gender Based Violence, with a particular focus on sexual violence and its psychological sequelae. Cameron has a strong passion for empowerment approaches to the prevention of, and recovery from, various forms of gender-based violence.

 On the Sexual Violence Project Nigeria, Cameron worked as a research assistant in Dr. Adebayo’s research lab. She assisted with participant recruitment and data collection.

Oluwatosin Pinmiloye

Biography

Oluwatosin Pinmiloye earned her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science in the Philippines. She is currently a graduate student in Health Science master’s Program at Towson University. She is interested in understanding the health disparities of uterine fibroids amongst black women, specifically women of the African descent as well as maternal and child health. Additionally, she is interested in research that focus on sexual violence. 

On the Sexual Violence Project Nigeria, Tosin worked as a research assistant in Dr. Adebayo’s research lab. She assisted with participant recruitment and data collection.
